Frequently Asked Questions About High Plains Periodontics & Implant Dentistry
Why should I choose High Plains Periodontics & Implant Dentistry?
We believe no one should have to live with the quiet toll gum disease takes in their lives. This includes the hesitation before you smile, the second-guessing before you speak up, the discomfort that makes you pull back from the moments with loved ones. We started High Plains Periodontics & Implant Dentistry because we believe comfort, confidence, and presence shouldn’t be things periodontitis gets to take from you.
That belief shapes how we practice “setting the foundation for a healthy, West Texas smile”. Our doctors are board certified specialists in periodontics and implantology, which means we’ve dedicated our careers to this one area of care. Every treatment plan is built around you and your life, not a one-size-fits-all protocol. We invest in advanced technology like LANAP® laser periodontal therapy, Laser Assisted Endoscopic Periodontal Therapy, and computer-guided implant placement because gentler, more precise tools mean less disruption to your life and a faster path back to feeling like yourself. And we create a comfortable, supportive environment because how you feel walking through our doors matters as much as the clinical outcome.
What that looks like in practice: comprehensive care for gum disease, dental implants, gum recession, and other periodontal concerns that are delivered with the specialized expertise that give you the best chance at lasting comfort and confidence.
Who are the doctors at High Plains Periodontics?
High Plains Periodontics is home to a team of periodontal specialists, including:
- Dr. Dylan Everett, DDS, MS
- Dr. Madhumati Reddy, BDS, MS
- Dr. John J. Schuetz, DDS, MDS, MS
In 2024, we were honored to welcome the patients of Dr. Lisa Wentz, who spent years building deep trust and lasting relationships throughout our community. While she enjoys her next chapter making memories with her grandchildren and family, we now carry that legacy of combining her tradition of personal, attentive care with the specialized expertise and advanced technology our community deserves.
Do I need a referral from my dentist?
No. You do not need a referral from a general dentist to schedule an appointment with High Plains Periodontics.
While we work closely with referring dentists, many people contact our office directly. We graciously also welcome referrals from existing patients and friends of the practice.
What makes High Plains different from a general dentist?
At High Plains Periodontics, our board-certified periodontists specialize in periodontal and implant care, allowing us to treat complex gum, bone, and implant concerns that may require specialized expertise.
Does High Plains offer LANAP® laser gum disease treatment?
Yes. High Plains Periodontics is a LANAP®-certified practice offering Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure treatment for periodontal disease.
Our knowledge and commitment to your oral foundation shapes every decision we make about how we treat you, including the technology we choose. Not all “laser gum treatments” are the same, and that difference matters. We use LANAP®, the only laser protocol that is FDA-cleared for true periodontal regeneration, not just symptom management. Unlike generic soft-tissue lasers that simply cut or reduce gum tissue, the LANAP protocol is backed by published, peer-reviewed research showing it can regenerate lost bone and reattach gum tissue, with minimal discomfort and no cutting or stitches. When you’re comparing options, that distinction – regeneration versus removal – is often the difference between truly stabilizing or restoring what periodontitis has taken versus just “watching” it a little longer.
Does High Plains specialize in dental implants?
Yes. Dental implants are one of our primary areas of specialty.
Our team provides comprehensive implant care, including:
- Single-tooth dental implants
- Multiple dental implants
- Implant-supported bridges
- Full-mouth implant rehabilitation
- Bone grafting
- Ridge preservation
- Implant maintenance
We also have extensive experience with full-arch implant treatment and are recognized by Nobel Biocare as the Texas Panhandle’s only All-on-4® Center of Excellence.
Does High Plains offer advanced implant care?
Yes, and for us, “advanced” isn’t about having the newest equipment for its own sake. It’s about giving you back your bite, your smile, and your confidence with as much precision and predictability as possible.
Before we ever place an implant, we map your anatomy in detail. This includes nerves, bone volume and density, sinus position, gum thickness, and all the other things you can’t see but determine whether an implant will thrive for decades or cause problems down the road. Rather than planning procedure by procedure, we start with your end result in mind: what your smile and function should look like when treatment is complete and work backward to build the best path to get you there.
But implants aren’t “set it and forget it.” Like natural teeth, they need a healthy foundation to last. When that foundation is compromised, it’s called peri-implantitis. This inflammation and bone loss around an implant is similar to how gum disease affects natural teeth. Because we’re periodontal specialists first, we don’t just place implants; we monitor and treat the tissue and bone around them to reduce that overall risk.
Do you offer sedation for periodontal or implant procedures?
Yes. High Plains Periodontics offers sedation options for patients who experience dental anxiety or would prefer additional comfort during treatment. Sedation options can be discussed with your doctor during your consultation to determine what is appropriate for your procedure and individual needs.
Do you treat children?
Yes. In addition to periodontal and implant care for adults, High Plains provides select services for younger patients.
Our pediatric services include:
- Tongue-tie evaluations and treatment
- Orthodontic assistant services
- Guidance for healthy oral development
Our team can help determine whether your child’s needs can be treated in our office or whether a referral to another specialist would be appropriate.
Do you offer financing and payment options?
Yes. We understand that periodontal and implant treatment can represent a significant investment, so we offer several payment and financing options.
Available options include:
- CareCredit®
- LendingClub Patient Solutions
- Cherry Financing
- Cash or check
- Major credit cards
Our team can also help explain your treatment estimate and available payment options. As a courtesy, we can file insurance claims and help patients understand their benefits.
Do you accept dental insurance?
We believe your path back to comfort, confidence, and presence shouldn’t be complicated by confusion over paperwork or benefits. While High Plains Periodontics & Implant Dentistry is not in-network with any insurance companies, that decision allows us to recommend the treatment that’s truly right for you, not the treatment a network contract permits. Your care is never dictated by what an insurance company will approve, or more commonly, deny. You are our focus, not their shareholders and CEO.
That said, we know your benefits matter, and we’re committed to helping you use them fully. As a courtesy, our team will file claims on your behalf and work to help you receive as much of your available benefit as your plan allows. Because coverage varies significantly between insurance plans and procedures, we recommend contacting our office so our team can walk you through your estimated benefits and financial responsibility before treatment begins.
